Welcome to the first edition of 2019 poetry challenge. Each month myself and a few others choose a theme and write a poem about said theme. It could be free verse, prose, haiku or any other form that we choose. I'm glad you stopped by and hope you enjoy enough to return, also be sure to visit the others and see how they chose to write about...
Winter Blues - poetry theme Jan 2019
Poem title: Dark Days of Winter
"Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.
cloudy bleak dreary
sun has gone into hiding
depression sets in
Sijo is a Korean form of poetry. Similar to the Haiku except it has 14-16 syllables per line, only 3 lines and no more than 46 syllables total.
Dark days of winter grey skies above leaving me cold inside
masking the sun's rays leaving us cold and feeling all alone
darkness in the sky is there any end in sight please sun come out

Ccccold Days!!
Cold days upon us
Snow falls gently all around
Frosty stands proudly

Snow drifts standing tall
Snowballs flying high and fast
target hit, man down
# 3
cold and dreary days
hot chocolate by the fire
cold nose and warm toes

Out With The Fuzzy - poetry challenge November 2018
Clean Out Your Fridge Day
Today we, a group of bloggers, are posting our prose on the theme "Clean Out Your Fridge Day" one of the many crazy holidays on the calendar.
Do you clean out your fridge often? I do. Every week before I go grocery shopping I rearrange things, toss out things and dig in the back to see what has been pushed aside and forgotten. But every so often, okay, more often than I care to admit, the vegetable bin gets neglected and I find fuzzy stuff that I'm not quiet sure what is anymore. Oy!
At the end of the post you'll find links to the others. ENJOY!
Out With The Fuzzy
A cold wet Wednesday
what do I do
I open up the fridge
and say how do you do
I find a green blob
kinda looks like jello
uh oh hello
it's a moldy jello
Another container
hidden behind the milk
it used to be mashed potatoes
or so I think
squishy cucumbers
all watery and gross
a block of cheese
that now looks like a nose
the power went off
for a few days
thank you hurricane Flo
you've been a real hag
fuzzy jello
green cheese
sour milk
and boy does it stink!
Dumping containers
full of this and that
tossing out food
that I wouldn't feed a bat
Wiping down shelves
wow how it all sparkles
now I'm done
until the next debacle

Ode to My Sock
Welcome and happy May 9th. Today a few of us are sharing our take on the theme "lost sock memorial day" in poetry form. Who came up with this memorial? I'm thinking a mom with several kids who never have matching socks. In her exasperation and possible venting, she spoke to the right person and Viola! Lost Sock Memorial Day was born.
Ode To My Sock
Opening the drawer
I see no more
Where have the socks gone
In the hamper?
In the trash?
Maybe between the washer and wall
I can't find them all
Searching high
searching low
did wings grow
did they take flight
Once more to the dryer
nothing but lint
back to the dresser
finding not one hint
purse in hand
to the store I go
to buy one more pack
or should I lack
forget socks
forget shoes
bare feet it is
Poem 2
Where are my socks he said
look in the drawer
Do you think I'm a bore
Of course I looked in the drawer
to the dryer
look insider her
nothing but lint
not even a hint
Where did they go
did someone hide them
but who
are they in my shoe
not in the shoe
not in the basket
not in the drawer
what ever will I do
wait for part 2...

Mad As A Hatter: March Madness
Welcome to the group poetry post. A group of brave and talented bloggers get together with a chosen theme once a month and share their take in diverse writing styles. It's fun, silly and enlightening. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Mad As A Hatter: March Madness
He marches in like a lion
He stares you straight in the face
It is unnerving
Unsettling
He is a force to be reckoned with
Strong, fierce, moving
He is the wind
He blows in like a lion
and out like a lamb
leaving us embracing what is left behind
Mad as a hatter
is how we feel at times
But each year
we look forward to his arrival

Her Frosty Heart
Hi and welcome to the February group poetry post. Each month we pick a theme, then each blogger chooses their way of interperting that theme into a poem, hiaku, lymeric or prose. Be sure to visit each one as their links are listed at the bottom of this post.
This month's theme...frosty.
Her Frosty Heart
Young love
so hungry and lustful
a heart so warm and free
but oh how cold it becomes
when she is a woman scorned
A once warm loving heart
now cold, ridgidy and unforgiving
She stares out the window
at lovers walking by
hand in hand
all starry eyed
She snorts and laughs
oh you fools
she says to herself
And then their eyes meet
for a moment the ice begins to melt
her frosty heart
it feels something
She turns and looks the other way
no she has been here before
and will not go down this path
love only becomes lonely nights
Her frosty heart begs
it cries from within
it warms to feel the warmth again
if only for a few fleeting moments
She glances back
but alas he is gone
oh wait, what is this?
He is beside her asking if he may join her
Her frosty heart
oh it begins to sing
songs of love and spring
the melting begins
she wants to be young and free
to love and be loved
but dare she
yes, she must.

The Meaning of the End
Welcome to the December 2017 group poetry post. Each month we choose a topic or theme, each blogger then creates their own interpretation of that in poetry or free form style.
This month, Endings is the chosen theme.
I racked my brain trying to come up with something that might even remotely resemble poetry. Alas, I came up empty handed. I kept finding myself writing short stories, essays, and paragraphs that rambled on and on.
If you scroll to the bottom of this post you'll find links to real poetry created by my talented friends.
Thanks for stopping by!
E - ending, final, completion
N - nothing stays the same
D - destined to change
I - inspiring us forward
N - new life after the old
G - giver of closure
S - sending us into a new tomorrow

A Bootiful Scream
Good morning! Today is an attempt at poetry by myself and poetry submissions from my blogger buddies. I hope you enjoy it and visit the others. We post once a month and each month have a different theme. As we are all different, each bloggers take on the them is different. At the bottom of the post you will find links to the other brave souls.
A Boo-tiful Scream
She walked gracefully by the stones,
cold and hard like her heart.
her fingers skimmed the tops
feeling the cold hard stone,
wet with evening dew
causing her to shiver.
A thrill ran through her.
an owl screeched,
a limb snapped,
her breath caught in her throat.
A breeze picked up her skirt
and tossed her hair about.
Walking under a tree
she became like a ninja,
as she walked through a spider's web.
The laugh escaped her lips
catching her off guard.
She whirled around to see if anyone was there.
Her eyes lit with mischief.
She began to run.
The faster she ran,
the freer she felt.
She ran until she collapsed
lying on the chilly ground,
panting like a deer for water.
She released a boo-tiful scream
It came from deep within,
a soulful scream
a scream of release
a flood of emotions came with it.
The owl screeched again.
She could hear the crickets.
The wind caressing her skin.
she breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
She stood and walked away,
forever changed. . .
by the boo-tiful scream

Forgiveness
Forgiveness
Once, there was a time
I thought I would never heal.
Time marches on,
life happens,
hearts begin to mend.
My thoughts turn to you,
to happier times once shared.
I could not get you out of my mind.
You never left my heart.
I gave in.
Forgiveness happened.
We talked,
we laughed,
we healed,
we reconnected.
The love was still there,
we could no longer fight it.
Look at us now,
happy, whole and together.
It's amazing what happens when you forgive.
Life moves forward,
love blooms,
clouds clear.
The storms may rage,
but you no longer weather them alone.
Standing on a hill looking down,
I can see clearly now
YOU. . . my soulmate
YOU. . . my love
YOU. . . my forever
It's amazing what happens when you forgive

Better Late Than Never, Right?
Welcome to the monthly poetry challenge. Several bloggers get together each month, pick a theme and attempt to write a poem. Some are more successful than others. Be sure to scroll down and visit the others.
Be Late For Something Day - poetry challenge
Better late than never they say
but is that really true
for if you are late for everything
what will you be due?
If you return a book late
there are fees involved
If your credit card payment is late
the fees evolve
If you are late for your monthly cycle
a baby will ensue
and if you are late feeding
screaming will pursue
Deadlines are set
time lines are in effect
payments are due
to include the rent
Lights turn red
we must stop
or be dead
Turn off the stove
or burn your honeys dinner
So is it true?
Better late than never?
I ask you...
Consider others time
consider the possible consequences
think about this rhyme
the next time you need to be on time.
Is it...better late than never?

Can I "Admit You're Happy" - poetry challenge
Once a month several of us, brave folks who want to be poets, get together on a theme and write down our verse. Some are fabulous at it, some are brave like me. This month the theme... "Admit You're Happy" this was difficult for me. I have never given myself permission to be happy unless it was okay with "him" whoever "him" was at the time.
Domestic violence is at epidemic proportions these days and it's not just women being abused. Men are abused but keep silent more than women. If you are in a domestic abuse situation PLEASE seek help, there is help out there, and yes it is scary to speak up.
Domestic Abuse Hotline
1-800-799-7233
But please, please do if not for yourself, for those who really love you and care.
Can I...
Admit You're Happy
Can I...
Admit I stopped caring the day you left
Can I...
Be myself for once in my life
Can I...
Walk around and smile
and not feel guilty
Can I...
Really be happy without you
Can I...
move forward
Can I...
live a full life without you
Can I...
get healing from the abuse
Can I...
tell my story
Can I...
help others from what I've learned
Can I...
find my voice
Can I...
Admit I'm Happy?
yes
YES I CAN

Udder Appreciation
Our monthly poetry group decided to do a second post this month...Cow Appreciation Day! YES!! We went there, be sure to check out the other post, listed at the bottom of my post.
Here in NC there is a delicious chicken fast food place called Chic-fil-a, and every so often they have cow appreciation, if you dress like a cow or wear cow print you get a free sandwich! Because cows love and endorse chicken eating! LOL

Udder Appreciation
Bovine, Bovine,
won'tcha be mine.
with big brown eyes,
that look so kind.
It's cow appreciation time
And I'm doing my best,
not to be like the rest.
You are an udder delight,
when on my plate at night.
Where's the beef?
Between a bun,
Over rice,
served with beans as chili at night.
Your milk is rich, sweet and light,
but when chocolate is added,
it makes it taste out of sight!
Cow Appreciation
we must acknowledge
your sweet existence,
that helps our life.
It may sound mean, cruel or slight
but we could not go a single night,
without your yummy taste
in our tummies dee-light!
You feed us, entertain us and yes
even cloth us.
So thank you cows and farmers everywhere for all you do...
I appreciate cows,
how about you?

Reflection Of My Past Life
This post is part of a writing challenge. Each month a group of wonderful blog buddies and I get together for a poetry challenge. We post creative writing challenges on Fridays and it is different each week but repeats monthly. We also do a poetry challenge, this is where we pick a topic and each write our own take on that topic.
This month: reflection was chosen. Be sure to read to the end as you'll find links to their pages.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

A Reflection Of My Past Life
Looking back I see a little girl
scared, unsure and all alone
she searches for meaning
she tries to fit in
searching in vain
for some encouragement of sorts
she finds something called love
it is dysfunctional
like most of her life
she grabs hold determined not to let go
falling, faster into the depths of destruction
she looks up
begging for help
but none is to be found
life, love and destruction
she starts over
she finds love
she grabs hold
but again it is in vain
half her life is gone now
she must start over
yet again
this time she looks around
there is no help
she must help herself
she gives herself a pep talk
pulls herself up by the boot straps
she stands tall
takes a deep breath
walks forward into the night
to begin again
alone but not scared
she will make
she has to
life, self love and no more destruction
she walks like the night
silent and strong
she stands like the mountains
tall, firm and unwavering
she flies like the eagle
high and majestic
the reflection of the past
only relevant in her eyes when she is alone
she grew, she stood, she survived
she THRIVES
why?
because he said she couldn't
because she has to
and she DID!

Me Without Him
Moving through time
A spiritual being
Trapped in an earthen vessel
Longing to be free
Needing to breath
Struggling in the flesh
Warring with the emotions
Thirsting for home
Striving for the goal
Seeking out the crown of
Everlasting jewels of righteousness
Hoping for praise with life giving words
Spending eternity free of pain
No more tears
Nothing but joy
Walking the streets of gold
My heavenly home awaits
For I am an alien in a foreign land
This is not my home
I'm only passing through
Waiting...
I am not alone
He walks with me
Even though I do not see
He talks to me
Even though at times I do not hear
He carries me
Even when I feel left out in the cold
He cares for me
Even when all hope seems lost
He watches, waits and moves
Only when His time is right
He is love
I am love thirsty
He is giving
I am selfish
He is strong
I am weak
He has a plan
I am clueless
Me without Him
Nothing
Him without me
changes nothing
He is Love
Me Without Him...
Nothing
