Welcome and happy May 9th. Today a few of us are sharing our take on the theme "lost sock memorial day" in poetry form. Who came up with this memorial? I'm thinking a mom with several kids who never have matching socks. In her exasperation and possible venting, she spoke to the right person and Viola! Lost Sock Memorial Day was born.
Ode To My Sock
Opening the drawer
I see no more
Where have the socks gone
In the hamper?
In the trash?
Maybe between the washer and wall
I can't find them all
Searching high
searching low
did wings grow
did they take flight
Once more to the dryer
nothing but lint
back to the dresser
finding not one hint
purse in hand
to the store I go
to buy one more pack
or should I lack
forget socks
forget shoes
bare feet it is
Poem 2
Where are my socks he said
look in the drawer
Do you think I'm a bore
Of course I looked in the drawer
to the dryer
look insider her
nothing but lint
not even a hint
Where did they go
did someone hide them
but who
are they in my shoe
not in the shoe
not in the basket
not in the drawer
what ever will I do
wait for part 2...

Cat Burglar SS - May
Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This week 10 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.
Sit down and let me tell you the story of the cat burglar. Back in 1989 my husband, then boyfriend, was deployed to Iraq and for the first time I was alone in our home for what felt like eternity.
I did have Max. My orange tabby. He was my buddy, my snuggle kitty and companion.
I was in bed one night and kept hearing a noise outside. Concerned because there had been issues in our neighborhood with break-ins.
Finally dozing off, tossing and turning, I hear something in my hallway. I'll admit, I'm a little freaked out. Laying there trying to decide what to do. Okay this is long before cell phones or cordless phones. I did have a baseball bat near my bed.
Staying very still, listening and watching for any movement. Then it happens...the toilet flushes. I'm like OMG this jerk has broken in and now is using my bathroom?!?!
Ever so slowly I scooted to the edge of the bed, reached for my Louisville Slugger and rolled on to the floor. Low crawling toward the door, I froze, the toilet flushed again. Dear lord what was he doing in there?Inching toward the hallway, listening and trying not to breath. I make it to the door, ever so quietly I stand up. Bat in hand, ready to swing, stepping into the hall and making my way to the bathroom door. I see it is standing wide open, gee guess he's not a shy burglar.
Simultaneously I jump in the door way, flip on the light and scream. Don't ask me why I screamed I guess I thought it would scare the burglar into submission.
And then, the toilet flushed.
There, sitting on the seat, entertaining himself with the swirling water...was Max. My cat was flushing my toilet at 3 a.m.
Relief flooded me and then I was mad. This dad gum cat had woken me up at 3 a.m. all because he was entertaining himself watching the water swirl in the bowl.
Then the laughter hit. I must have laughed for an hour. I said to myself, I can't wait for him to call and tell him all about the "cat burglar".

A Glimmer of Hope
Do you ever lose faith in mankind? Looking around your neighborhood, city, state, even your own family and think lord help us all we're going to hell in a hand basket. I do. But then God shows up and in a big way.
This morning I received a text from a dear friend of mine, we normally text everyday, so this was nothing out of the ordinary.
She was telling me about this elderly man, most likely in his 80's, he was dining alone and very grumpy. She felt compelled to pay for his meal. She stated he was wearing a wedding ring but dining alone. She said, so am I but he seemed so down. I said maybe his wife is in a nursing home or hospital. You never know what someone else is going through. She and I have had our share of despondent moments over the past 3 years.
She said she felt led to pay his bill and hoped it helped him out. It's called paying it forward. Where you do something nice for someone without their knowledge expecting nothing in return. I have done this at drive thru restaurants and have had it done for me. It always comes as a surprise and at just the right time.
There is so much hate, anger, destruction and down and out sadness in the world today but this made me smile. It also reminded me that God is in control BUT we still have a job to do. Be kind, love one another and give generously.
I will never forget Thanksgiving 2016. The incident was just a couple of days before Thanksgiving. I had gotten of work and was at the grocery store. For whatever reason I did not have my debit card. Thankfully I had some cash but not enough. I was buying food for Thanksgiving. Embarrassed I asked the cashier to remove items until I could pay. I told him I lived right around the corner and would be right back. I'm sure he didn't believe me but it was true. He was putting things into bags when a gentleman from two registers over came up and said "no no no, ring it all up and I'll pay for it." I was shocked and even more embarrassed. Try as I might to explain to the man what was going on, he just looked at me and said "It's okay, everyone needs Thanksgiving, paid and said Happy Thanksgiving." walked away. I kept trying to tell him, I had the money! Just not on me.
I walked to my car with all the bags and cried the entire time. I was so embarrassed. God spoke to me reminding me of times I had helped others and times when I did NOT have money for food. I asked HIM to bless this man for his kindness and that his generosity would not go unnoticed or rewarded. I have no idea who the man was but it was a blessing. It gave me hope. I had been severely verbally abused earlier that day by someone who claimed to love me. I was feeling less than thankful and honestly a little bitter about buying the food in the first place. The last thing I wanted was to spend thanksgiving with this person.
The generosity of a stranger gave me hope and lifted my spirits. It gave me courage to get out of the situation I was in.
I am forever grateful to the stranger.
So pay it forward folks. You never know the hope you may be passing on. The blessing to a stranger who may be at their end.
Just a glimmer of hope is all some of us need.

Broken Hearted Mama - UYW
Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.

She opened the invitation. Slowly running her hand over the italicize lettering on the front. Opening it she saw the beautiful penmanship and knew it was written by her. Because had Jim written it, no way you could decipher the writing. As a man, he saw no need in perfecting his writing after all only needed to sign his name to the checks and documents as he had pointed out so many times.
An invitation to a birthday party, how kind of "her" to invite me Sarah thought. Ugh...she hated feeling this way. WHY did life have to be so complicated. WHY didn't her son marry a woman she liked or even one she could tolerate instead of this insipid idiot, money grubbing gold digging floozy!
Taking a deep breath and slowly releasing it. Sarah thought back to the day her son got his pilot license. He was so proud, granted he had to repeat the test 3 times but once he had it down, he was golden. He never did test well as a child, over thinking normally got him in trouble. Too bad he didn't do that with women.
Yes that was a fateful day. The day he met her. Kendall. Sarah shuttered even at the thought of her name.
She had turned Jim against the family in no time flat. Demanding all his time and spending all his money. No mama don't play that...but mama didn't win this time.
It did not take Kendall long to convince Jim that they needed to move, California was the place to be. He could hang up his corporate job and become a pilot full time. He loved that idea, he was such a dreamer and soon they were married, moved and hardly a word from them.
It saddened Sarah's heart so much. Her son, once her best friend, her buddy, her sweet little guy who rarely left her side. Now he was living across the country, flying and doing who knew what. Not Sarah, she only heard from him on her birthday and major holidays. Mostly through text messages because if he was home he couldn't possibly call his momma, no that would interfere with HER time. Growling a little inside, Sarah looked at the date on the invitation.
WHAT??? The party is in 3 days?! HOW IN THE HECK was she going to make that? Oh yes, she wasn't, I'm sure that's the plan she thought. She sent me an invitation last minute because she knew I wouldn't be able to make it.
HA! Laughs on her. I will move hell and high water this time. I will be there Sarah out loud to no one but the cat. Oh yes, I'll be there and I'll be damned if she will stop me.

Walking Wild
Welcome to this month's poetry group posting. At the end of this post you'll find links to the other participants.
Our theme this month...walking on the wild side. Well if this was a short story or essay I could just tell you all about my teenage years but since it's poetry, I'll do my best.
Late nights
no care for frights
a drink, a ride
not trying to hide
Fast cars
fast guys
sneaking in bars
late night highs
Walking Wild
this carefree child
skipping school
being a fool
Friends cheering you on
as you chug a pint
until you are far gone
and all for spite
Waking up one day
to see yourself in the light
and saying hey
no more, and with all my might
Wild Child
you need to chill
before you get killed
It's time to calm down
grow up and chill
no more frowns
as your pass by the grill
Walking Wild
but in a different spirit
passionate about life
loving each moment but responsibly

Bucket List - SSS
Welcome to a Secret Subject Swap. This week 9 brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Today we are all simultaneously divulging our topics and submitting our posts.
Do you have a bucket list? You know, a list of things you want to do before you're too old to do them or places you want to go? I do. I think at least in my head I always have.
There are things that as I have gotten older I've scratched off because they aren't practical and I just know it's not feasible. So they are off.Like singing professionally. That ship sailed long ago. I still dream of singing but I have come to the understanding that it will only happen in the comfort of my own home, my car and church.
I always wanted to go to Europe when I was younger and I did. I actually lived there for 3 years and would LOVE to go back. That is on my list. Go back, take my hubby and see the things I missed, revisit some of my favorites and find new favorites with him.
Visit Australia, Ireland, Scotland. I might not return!
Rescue animals. That is high on my list. I have done this, many times, all of our pets/furbabies have been rescues but it is a dream to own a farm and have dozens if not hundreds of furbabies and help them find their furever homes.
Drive across country. I have gone as far as Texas. But to take a month, in an RV, with my hubby and drive from one coast to the other, stopping along the way to see mapped out sites...that is a huge dream and hopefully one day it will happen.
Have a book published. My husband has and I would love to. Maybe. Who knows.
After almost 6 years of blogging, I have gained many wonderful friends and I have added meeting them in person to the list.
Becoming a famous landscape/wildlife photographer. still possible
What's on your list? Is it long? Are you doing anything to make the list happen?
