Our poetry theme this month is Longer Days, pretty appropriate considering it is summer time and exactly that, longer days.
Longer Days
Summer time oh sweet summer time
how I have missed your sunshine
sun shining bright
no school in sight
oh how I've missed you summer time
early mornings
no laying around
sleepy head
chasing kites
fishing poles and worms
cars loaded for the beach
oh the sun burn
oh how I've missed you summer time
fireflys and hummingbirds
catfish and tadpoles
picnics and camping
s'mores by the dozen
late night movies
outside play until ten
running and jumping
then we get up and do it again
Longer Days
what a joy
but by summers end
we are tired and sore!

My Barefoot Days - June poetry
Welcome to the group poetry efforts of five bloggers, including myself. Each month we chose a theme and then set about putting our thoughts, feelings and rhyme on pages for you to read. At the bottom of the post you'll find the other links.
This month we chose "Barefoot Days" as our theme. For me, that is everyday. I am not a fan of shoes. Okay, I love heels but can no longer wear them. I spend my days barefooted. My pup knows if mama has on shoes, she is leaving.
It is my desire that you see my childhood summers in this Haiku. Thanks for stopping by.
Me running barefoot
jumping in puddles of rain
feeling slimy mud
it squishing between my toes
puddle jumping and splashing
long warm summer days
picking peas and corn
swimming, naps, firefly catching
blowing gum bubbles
pigtails a flying
chasing pretty butterflies
pink cheeks freckled nose
playing tag with friends
two dirty feet and scraped knees
a little girls dream
rainbows and toad frogs
flip flops and short sundresses
summer barefoot days
cousin sleepovers
reading stories by flashlight
making each day count

Exuberant Vacation
Today is the day! We set off on our family vacation. The kids are totally beside themselves with anticipation. I am busy trying to get everyone organized and packed.
Finally later in the day, the packing is done, the garden has been harvested one last time before we leave and the kids were outside chasing firefly or lightening bugs. They are giddy and I'm praying they will sleep tonight. Twilight was a perfect time for catching these lovely
The 4th of July, a family vacation, fireworks, walks on the beach, playing in the surf, sipping Mia Tia's by the pool...ah yes I am so ready for this.
After a restless night, I kept going over the packing list in my head, it was dawn and since sleep eluded me, I gave in and started prepping for our departure.
Wouldn't you know it, I didn't even get the first cup of coffee down before the herd came barreling down the steps. WOW how could they possibly be so exuberant and loud so early in the morning?
So with my list in hand I start assigning task, if not this crowd will be running around and I'll be stuck doing all the work.
Door bell rings, kids go berserk, dog is barking, cat is hissing, I'm about to pull out my hair! Then I hear the voice of an angel!! It's my dear sweet just in the nick of time friend Di. She has come to house/pet sit while we are away and aide me in getting this crowd loaded. Oh gosh I don't know what I'd do without her.
We discuss details, she helps corral the troops and load the jeep. Much sooner than I had thought we are barreling down the road singing 70's songs at the top of our lungs.
Yes, this vacation is just what we need.

Today’s post is a writing challenge. This is how it works: participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words or short phrases for someone else to craft into a post. All words must be used at least once and all the posts will be unique as each writer has received their own set of words. That’s the challenge, here’s a fun twist; no one who’s participating knows who got their words and in what direction the writer will take them. Until now.
At the end of this post you’ll find links to the other blogs featuring this challenge. Check them all out, see what words they got and how they used them.
